Artist's Statement

3D Julia Set, computer-rendered volume visualization, (c) 1993 Stewart Dickson courtesy of The Williams Gallery.

An view down the positive Z-axis of a 200 x 200 x 200 x 8-bit per pixel volume convergence map of the procedure Z -> Z^2 + (-0.1103,-0.67037,0.0,0.0) where Z is a complex quaternion four-vector of the form (a, b i, c j, d k). The pixel volume represents the three-space spanned by (1, i, j, 0). This image is part of a proposed collaboration to construct a physical model of this object via Selective Laser Sintering technology at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Texas at Austin.
