Geneaology

This work began with a geneaology which joined the family of Frederick Stoever Dickson (Sr.) (1850-1925) with that of Helen Hortense Hickman (1849-1945). The geneaology was created somewhere between 1920 and 1950, after the birth of their grandsons Frederick Stoever Dickson III (1920-2000) and David Alexander Dickson (1925-), but before the grandsons married.

The Geneaology is constructed as a 3D book of 16 pages. The pages measure 12-1/4 inches by 14-3/4 inches. The Dickson and Hickman lineages join at page 8-9 in the center of the book. The two lineages extend over the pages preceding and following pages 8-9. The book is hand-drafted and captioned on heavy paper. Extensions of families joined through marriage occur via cut-outs through the pages. This is how the trees extend from page to page through the book.

To me, the construction of F. S. Dickson's Geneaology suggests Hypertext -- fifty years prior to the invention of HTML.
