Subject: stop motion

Hi. I stumbled on to your page and found it comfortable.

I have been studying stop motion animation by my self for about 3 years. Currently I have been successful at animating tortured, malformed barbie dolls into operatic cantos of nihilism. (Yay!)

The meat of the letter:

I have been looking for a school that offers experimental animation or stop motion but have not had success in the expenditures department. That means its too damn expensive. I want to make the financial commitment, but haven't found anyone who has real, concrete information. I was wondering if you had any input on the quality of classes, (if you have taken them,) on stop motion.

Or are you doing it as a hobby?

I am currently on the battlefield of armature fabrication. How do YOU make ball and socket joints? I hope it is not an ancient Chinese secret.

Thanks. Hope to hear from you:
Jeremy

I wander whether when a lesbian watches such videos do you get turn-on like a straight guy. I would think that a true lesbian will only be attracted to a dyke not an ordinary sexy girl. If you do like the normal x-rated videos, I would be glad if you could recommend some as I am interested to buy some.

I am impressed with your page! not often you see a page as simple as yours, which contains as much content. (I try to keep my pages simple, alas as more and more people complain including customers I am slowly changing that <sigh>)

The picture on your "tattoo" pages at the top is more than a little interesting. Do you have a copy (with ad copy if possible) for my collection of extraordinary ads?

Hello and congratulations!

Each day, PlanetOut spotlights a person or organization's site in our megalist of links, NetQueery. On Wednesday, March 12, 1997, your site at http://emsh.calarts.edu/~cristin/ will be featured as NetQueery's pick for "Person of the Day!"

We feel that everyone who submits their link to NetQueery deserves to be promoted. This is our small way of saying thanks for being a part of NetQueery. Previous Person and Site of the Day recipients have told us they see a definite increase in traffic on the day they were selected.

We've made a fancy shmancy NetQueery button you can use on your site, letting people know you were chosen as our "Person of the Day". If you put the line of HTML code at the bottom of this letter into your page, it will place the button on your page, with a link back to NetQueery. Thanks to sites like yours joining NetQueery everyday, we've been able to steadily grow an important community resource like no other on the internet.

We hope you'll use this button, both to promo your own site, and to let people know about NetQueery. Of course, use of the button is purely optional. If you haven't had a chance to check it out, please come by and see us. We're at www.netqueery.com, or visit PlanetOut at www.planetout.com.

Again, CONGRATULATIONS! and thanks for the link!

Cristin--

I was just enjoying your website & thought I would drop you a note. I checked it out mainly on the subject of tattoo's, but then I saw your little area about your name.

I love the topic of names & you know, your name could also mean "peach pit". :-) You see, "stone" can also mean like that big seed you find in peaches or avocados. (I learned that from a chef friend who kept calling it a stone.)

Also, "Cristin" is a more dykie version of your name, but you sure don't look like a dyke. (In your pic anyway). You look more fem. There is this movie called "Wild Saragasso Sea" & there is this kewl voodoo/Christian/French woman called "Christophine". I've taken that name but I can't decide how to spell it. Krystofene. Cristofene.

If you haven't already, you may want to discover an artist named Olivia De Berardinis. She typically just goes by "Olivia". Her works are absolutely kick ass! Although she is not a lesbian, she is intruiged with female sexuality.

Hi there Cristin!:

I am trying to find out the history of overalls and put in a request through Infoseek on the Internet to see what I could come up with. I entered your piece on overalls and your associated websites and homepages, etc.

I am a member of the Friends of the Agricultural History Farm Park in Derwood, Maryland. We are having a Steam and Gas Show on April 19-20th and I am trying to find out where overalls came from in order that I might do an interpretative talk on this subject.

If this works out then I might also be able to do a interpretative talk on overalls, etc. at another site; you see, I also am a volunteer at the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair in Gaithersburg, Maryland. I work out of the Old Timers Exhibit, although I am thirty eight years old, a federal government employee and have no family connection to farming or other aspects of agriculture.

This year during Fair Week, which is August 15-23rd, we are having a thirty-fifth celebration of the founding of the Old Timers Exhibit. It orginally came out to celebrate in 1962 the 100th anniversary of the Department of Agriculture. It was so well taken that people asked that it be continued for each fair and it has been from 1962 up to the present day. Next year will be the fifty year founding of the Fair, 1948-1998.

So, there will be lots of people running around in overalls. Since you seem to have a website on the subject... if you could tell me how I could get more knowledge of the who, what, when, where, why and how that overalls came about, I would appreicate it greatly!!!

Sincerely,

H.

It'l piss a lot of closed minded people off, but what the hell!! Mae West once said that people who are shocked easily need to be shocked more often. I'm a bi witch myself. I am what I am and no amount of browbeating is going to change that.
Let me tell you a story about my cousin. It's a little depressing, but it makes a point about our so-called "society". Russel knew he was gay when he was 14, but society looked down on that, so he wasted most of his life trying to be something he wasn't. He joined the Marines. Figured if he could learn to be tough, he would be straight. No good.
He was married twice. That would surely make him straight. WRONG!! Then he became a Born-Again-Christian. Figured god would "fix" him. So sorry, still gay.
Finally, at age 41, he gave up and came out. Would you believe the first guy he picked gave him AIDS?!?
Then to add insult to injury, his good christian "friends" (can I laugh), who should have been supporting him or praying for him or something, picketed his funeral with signs like "Another Fag Burns in Hell" and "God Hates Fags". Isn't there something in the bible about brotherly love and not being their place to judge?
As you can tell, I'm pissed off, but my point is that if he had been allowed to be himself in the first place, he could have lived a full life as a gay man instead of wasting 27 years running away from himself.

Blessed be,
Whisper

Would you be so kind as to direct me to some references that would be usefull for my research into this subject. I interested in stabilizing elements within film and video sequences. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Start with pattern matching. Hint: always use normalized coordinates so you can view subsampled frames for testing purposes. Get X-trans and Y-trans first, then move on to two-point tracking to calculate rotation/zoom

First, I hope I'm not intruding. Second, I'm enrolled in a course, Lesbian Lives and Culture, and am doing research. Please help.

I'm interested in gathering information regarding lesbian self-identity, specifically how that identity is shaped/influenced, or created by self-chosen terms such as Dyke, Lesbian, Woman-Identified-Woman, Butch, and Femme.

Some questions to consider may be:
What term(s), if any, do you prefer for yourself? Why you identify as such?
To who you identify as such?
Has there been any change in your self-description, and if so why?

If you care to specify your age, it would also be greatly appreciated since I'm attempting to trace the usage of self-designating tags across generations. Any responses are sincerely appreciated!!

In case your curious: I'm a 30 year old student at San Diego State University. I'm attempting to gain a clearer understanding of the peoples who inhabit this planet so that I can open a few minds. You see, I intend to teach public school.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH, IF YOU'VE READ THIS FAR!!!!!

Wow, another dyke that does puppet animation. I thought I was the only one...just kidding. However it sometimes seems that way.

I found your page while I was surfing the net for foam and armature suppliers. It's funny I'v decided to make my own armature also (put all those metalsmithing classes I took to good use!) None the less, If it's not too much trouble for you, I would appreciate any suggestions you can give for supplies. I havent done anything with puppets in over ten years, so...my list of suppliers is, well, limited.

So, that you know that my inquiry is sincere: I've been working in "traditional" 2-D animation for quite a while, about ten years. Recently I did a volunteer project with the **** Foundation and a group of kids from a high school in Marin county. We created a PSA that ABC is supposed to start airing at the end of July. I thought it would be more intresting for the kids to do some clay or puppet animation, so I sort of pushed them in that direction. Well...I had forgotten how much fun animation could be (after ten years of idiotic studio politics and somebody else's tired characters, one can become somewhat jaded.) Now I work for my self--I just quit working for other people (other than part-time gigs) and I'm working on a short I've had shelved for years. This is very liberating and very scary all at the same time...needless to say I can use all the help I can get, even if it comes in the form of advice on where to shop.

Thanks in advance for your time,

Beth

I broke up with my ex(asian)girlfriend 5 weeks ago. She wanted me to move to Indonesia with her. That was a little wierd but she wouldn't let it go when I told her I wanted to stay in the states. We decided we had too many differences. She was a photography student. She has taken many photos of me (some nude :) that are actually pretty good if I do say so myself. Well, to be honest, it was mostly her great photography skills. Anyway, I just wanted to say Hi. I have never been to San Francisco but have heard it's beautiful.

E-mail me sometime... I'd love to have a sexy penpal <G>.

TTYL,

Emilyn

Glad you think I'm sexy, but I'm too wrapped up making a movie right now for anything but work.

Subject: Cool site

Cristin,

I pulled my wife's (Kim) overalls out of the dryer yesterday and I found that one of the clasps got chewed up. They are only about a month old, so we were irritated because they were basically ruined; however, I thought I'd go on the internet and try to find an Osh Kosh website or something like that so I could get a new damn clasp and fix Kim's overalls. I typed in "Osh Kosh" and "Overalls." All I could come up with was your website where you talk about your overalls. You seem pretty attached to your overalls, and frankly, I understand because Kim loves her overalls.

Anyway, I haven't been able to find out where I could get a new clasp, but I thoroughly enjoyed your page (you asked for comments), which basically makes up for the disappointment of the wounded overalls. But here is the kicker--Kim is a CalArts grad. Isn't it a strange and beautiful world? Good luck with your art Cristin.

Sincerely,

Cristin,

I came across your page on a global search for my ex-wife who is in the process of coming out. It is a truly wonderful and awe-inspiring metamorphosis to behold. I read the "business proposal" from that JERK and I wanted to let you know that I responded to him as follows:

: Dear Paul,
:
: You are such a loser. You're the sort of guy that gives sensitive and : empathic MEN like myself such a bad rap. I hope you smoke a turd in hell : for that number you pulled on "Cristin's somewhat more immaculate home : page". Business proposal my ass!
:
: Have a nice loser day!
: Henry

Anyway, I think you have a really nifty web page!

Namaste,

Henry

Hey Cristin. Just checkin' out your webpage and I've gotta tell you, that Sonic application cracked me UP! Man, that's funny.

Do you mountain bike or road bike? I'm a mountain biker and was wondering if there are some cool trails around where you live. I lived in Palm Springs and San Diego for awhile but mostly used my bike as transportation. Now I'm back in the beautiful east coast mud but missing the desert. The grass is always greener (or is that 'the desert's always browner'?).

Well, just wanted to tell you that your page is great. I really enjoyed it.

PS: Nice shirt!

I just had to write, I stumbled across your page, through a rather odd set of events. I started on Alan Parson, wnet through some music pages, hit a Marilyn Manson Page, creeped out of there by means of a genitortuers link, and then followed the body art link.

I just had to say though, I love that shirt you are wearing on your Bio-type page.

Okay it was a pointless message, but sometimes you just feel compelled to write these things :)

Subject: pneumonia sucks

Cristin,

Can not agree more with you observation. Mine is apparently responding well to antibiotics but what a drag (literally!). Drag my self here, drag my self there, feel bad, run fevers, dry hack. Mine had both my Doc and me fooled. With the pain centered about 3 inches below my right breast just above the rib line, we both thought gall bladder. Sonogram confirmed two things: I was not pregnant and it wasn't the gall bladder, xray confirmed pneumonia.

But while not the hated IV this trip I had it and several others on recent trip to ER/OR for carotid surgery--90% restriction with fresh blood clot--full blown stroke imminent with in 36 hours. Unexpected side affect was that my blood pressure returned to normal. I say unexpected because both my family doc and the surgeon said nothing about discontinuing my blood pressure medication. When I started complaining about being tired they checked my BP and said "no more."

Enjoyed poking about your page, take care, TTFN

Charlie

Hi!
My name is EuiSuk.
I really really love to see how you make ball-and-socket joints by yourself.
If you can upload that information, it will be great for me and everyone who is interested in making stop-motion animation. If you can't, please give me some hints. Thank you for you help!

Sincerely,

EuiSuk.

Subject: Overalls

I liked your "Why I love overalls"-site. I searched for "overalls" and found it. I also love overalls and uses them as often as I can. Sometimes it's hard to find them in Sweden, but now you can buy them almost everywhere. Yesterday I bought Lee bib-overalls in corduroy and they're very comfortable. The American type of overalls is casual wear in Sweden and not used for work. Swedish working clothes is a little bit different and only used at work.

I couldn't agree with you more. There's nothing more comfortable. It's the only way a guy can wear a (semi)jumpsuit in public without getting his ass kicked. What do you mean by custom made? I mean how are they different from any ones you would buy off the shelf?

Hello,
I found your webpage by doing a search on animation and armatures.

I am a art student at the University of Dayton. I am trying to get into puppet animation. My partner Neil and I have great vision but lack in the knowledge of the field.I was wondering if you could offer any support.I especially need a way to make the armatures or find a way to purchase them.

I have been a fan of stop-motion since I was little and my parents would show me art movies and often independent animation shorts.

Thanks in advance,
Aaron

Hey there Cristin,

we have the same wierd spelling of our names! Never thought I would find someone with the same!

I am 22 and live in Australia. I hate it when people cannot spell my name, just as you do... I cosidered changing the spelling to 'Kristen' but it just doesn't suit me. I am trying to find the true origin of our name... maybe you might know?

Write back if you wish.

Cristin....

Sure, John
Go ahead, change your name to 'Kristen'

and wait: he's back...

I am 22, live in Australia, model, and am bisexual...

I would love a reponse if you have time!

Thanks!

Cristin

I sure think people are stupid sometimes. Like the only name I will ever see is the one you put on the bottom of the letter.
you would be suprised at the tools availale to the savvy webmistress to ferrett out impostors, but this guy was just plain stupid.

Hiya there you artsy person you!

I'm being annoying by writing e-mail to you not to critique your page (which would be vastly improved if it had a background...), but rather to ask a couple a quick questions about thy animating history.
FACTS:

  1. I am a beginning film student.. I dig film/video hard, but I don't dig people or real-life stuff taht much. I don't think trhat way. Animation is my "thing".
2)Yes. QUESTIONS:
  1. Armetures sound nice, and I'd love to use 'em, but where can I get one? (for cheap... me have limited budget and no job) Or better yet, how can I make one? (pleeeease don't say to use twisted wire. that does NOT WORK!)
  2. Puppet animation WOULD be better, but how do I make my own puppets? I mean, I don't even have the armetures! How do I:
    1. Make the foam-injection molds
    2. Inject foam into them
  3. Are there any books or other websites you could point me to that might help me along on my quest? I know how long this would all take to explain, so where can I go for info?

Thanx great big bunches!

-Jackson

Subject: Your sexuality!

Hi (again!)!

No, I'm not going to pester you, I just have a couple of questions to ask you. I for one am a male (I think :-), and a heterosexual. Not that that matters to the queations I'd like to ask, but I thought I'd just say it anyway. I have no problems with homosexuals, and am actually quite good friends with a lesbian in my English class, Michelle. She is very "normal", and like most homosexuals {God, I'm beating that word to death!) does not AT ALL fit the media-induced stereotype of homosexuality.

OK, now that the legaliese is out of the way, I have a couple of questions for ya:
1) When did you realise you were a lesbian? [Or at least "different"]
2) Isn't it annoying when people shove statistics at you just because of you sexuality? And having taken statistics I know just how easy it is to make them lie!
3) You may find this offensive, and it's not really any of my buisness, but were you ever abused or raped? [standard question]
4) What group gives you the most hostility? Religious persons?
5) What religion [if any] are you?
6) Am i getting annoying yet? :-)
yes, you are.

You'll have to excuse my interest [well, actually you don't...], but this is a small town (well, not that small, but I'm sheltered), and Michelle is the only lesbian I know. I'd like to know if she's an average homosexual, or what (but then who decides what "average" is...).
Yes, she is average. if she exists

Ciao for Now,

-Jackson

what part of DYKE don't you understand?

Subject: Words and names

Hi AGAIN!

I'm just one durned persistant feller, ain't I!

Anyway, this is in response to the fact that "straight people get flustered when you use the words dyke or queer". Now, as open-minded as I am, I still get flustered at those words...just for different reasons.
QUEER:

I, for one, am a classic Sci-Fi fan, so most of what I read at an early age was really old school stuff (Early Asimov, etc.), and "queer" was used, back then, do describe something strange. I incorporated it into my vocabulary, and just can't seem to get rid of it! Thusly when I mean to say that something is "weird" or "lame", I occasionally say "queer", which makes people think I hate homosexuals or something. It bad.

DYKE:
Come on, go easy on us behind-the-times straight people! :-) I for one had some problems with "dyke" at first too, since I had absolutely no idea what it meant in its "new" context. I too, thought it had something to do with Holland and water. I git it now, though, and am qute "cool wit' dat".

Maybe you could have a list of homosexual-related terms and their meanings, to starighten out those heteros who don't have it together yet...

Anyway, this has been WAAAY to much e-mail for one night. NO MORE! I promise:-)

Fortunately, after three mails, the guy shut up.
