This film was a follow up to Espresso Depresso, a chaotic coffehouse calamity.
Open Mic was my contribution to film noir. A typical Donar dark satire, Open Mic was inspired by
the O.K. hotel located on Seattle's dark and dreary waterfront. It's my favorite place in Seattle.
Every Wed. night they had a poetry competition (or 'slam' as poets like to call it) with all walks of life.
I advise anyone to get up on stage and perform some sort of spoken art. I can't guarantee you'll survive
the scathing verbal participation of the often intoxicating audience, but I promise you'll probably meet
the heroin addict of your dreams.
Open Mic Fright was aired on MTV's Cartoon Sushi in June 1998, CSUN International Film Fest, and showcased in the 1998 Seattle International
Poetry Festival. I'm still hoping to get it into more film or poetry festivals.
Where words are spoken and furniture gets broken!
This Film was produced in Seattle at 911 Media Art Center. I utilized the wonderful talents of Eddie Sams who
composed the score and designed the sound to make this film work. We hired talented Jazz
musicians and brought them over to Eddie's house and recorded their performance in his living room. It was an Ad Hoc production
but the results were of the utmost professional quality.
Dan Farmer IS the Mel Blanc of Donar Animations. He has done every male and some female voices for my films.
His artistic visions and improvisational skills MAKE my films. Without his contributions, I feel my
work would never have achieved the outsanding success. I hope to make him rich (one day).
