About Me Atsuko Kubota LOGO

Born in Kiryu-city Gunma Japan. Involved in underground musical groups and art performances, published independent comic books in Tokyo Japan.
Came to the United States in 1990 and went to Tyler school of Art in Philadelphia Pennsylvania.
In 1993, after graduating from the school with Bachelor of Fine Art degree major in sculpture (Magna Cum Laude, Bertha Lowenburg Prize), collaborated on a playground for a day care center in Villanova PA and commissioned to do several murals at residences. Moved to New Haven Connecticut later that year.
In 1994, had solo exhibitions (installations), Fluid at Yale University, Some Other Place at Windows gallery, a commissioned installation Floating Giant / speaking in the first language at the Chapel Square Mall, participated in ARTSPACE / Summer Arts for Youth program as one of the mentors, appeared in Citizen's Television 'For Art Sake' and 'Artist Gallery'.
In 1995, received a grant from City of New Haven for one of the projects which I was working on with children at Christopher Columbus elementary school, and showed works at Special Olympics World Games/outside sculpture exhibition and at the Hollycroft Foundation in Ivorytown, CT.
In 1996, had two solo exhibitions (installations); query at Yale University and Confluence at New York Technical College in Brooklyn, NY.
In 1997, after having two exhibitions, Fluid series 3 in Branford CT and 4 in Audart, New York NY, left to Southern California to attend California Institute of the Arts for Master of Fine Art degree major in animation.
I am presently pursuing master's degree at CalArts.

The sequences and the distances between and around physical objects have been my materials, and I have worked with them as collaborators in the design process of sculptural installations and now in animation.
